Ben Duckett’s Sublime Form: Why RCB Might Sign Him Up for IPL 2025

Ben Duckett, the English opener, is currently on a roll, and for good reason. In the ongoing Champions Trophy, he created history by becoming the first and only batter to hit a 150-plus knock, achieving a remarkable 165(143) against Australia. This outstanding performance is not a one-off, as he also impressed in the white-ball series against India, finishing as the top England run-scorer in ODIs and the second-highest in T20Is.

However, his unavailability in the IPL 2025 auction last year was a surprise, with a high base price of INR 2 crores likely being the reason. Now, with his current form, franchises might reassess their options, and RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) could be the team that takes advantage of the situation.

Why RCB has the Best Chance to Sign Ben Duckett?

One of the primary reasons RCB should consider Ben Duckett is the rumors surrounding Jacob Bethell’s potentially being ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a left hamstring injury. Bethell has already been missing out on the Champions Trophy 2025 and is under an injury cloud for the IPL 2025 as well. If he is unable to participate, RCB can use the replacement clause, which states that the incoming player’s base price must be equal to or lower than the selling price of the player being replaced. In this case, Duckett’s base price of INR 2 crores is within the required range.

Moreover, Duckett will join forces with his English teammate and fellow opening partner, Phil Salt, with whom he shares excellent chemistry, having opened together for England in both ODIs and T20Is. This partnership can strengthen RCB’s batting line-up, and with Virat Kohli’s experience, he might consider moving down the order to No. 3, allowing the Duckett-Salt pair to build a strong foundation for the team.
