The notion of being fashionably smart is getting a makeover as gadgets will soon be available for wearing on retail stores.The increasing appetite for knowledge, being connected to the world, self discovery and acting smarter has led to tremendous development in these gadgets. The biggest revolution is brought by Google in this area with the development of Google Glasses which has a vision of a changed world. We are heading for the wearable computing era. People are going to be walking around with personal area network on their bodies and have multiple devices that talk to each other and the Web. A wearable computing trend is at the heart of the QUANTIFIED SELF movement in which people track how many calories they burnt to how well they sleep or their moods at any given point of time. Google is coming up with glasses that will completely change the environment around you. The days are not far when while walking on the roads a random person comes to you and say hey and knows everything about you and you are standing shocked. Just imagine how deeply it will invade your personal life. Google is coming up with something like that only where you can click your photographs in rain and that too hands free. You will be able to readChinese language without having any knowledge of the same and that is all possible now. The product has been developed and will hit the market sooN.
It would be mistaken to consider it the first or only company entering into wearable computing device field. This trend has already taken roots in USA with devices such as JAWBONE UP, NIKE?s FUELBAND, FITBIT keeping tabs on whether people are leading active, healthy lifestyles. Body media makes armbands used to track calorie burning. A research has revealed that six percent of US adults wore a gadget to track performance in sport, while five per cent used a gadget to track daily activity or how well they sleep. But this is just the beginning with the introduction Glasses it is expected that shipment of wearable computing gadgets can rise as high as 30 million units. These devices use sensors to detect micro movements and then feed information to smart phones or tablets, where application tap into processing power to analyze data and provide feedback to users. Sophisticated and inexpensive sensors for tracking movements, sound, GPS locations and more combined with killer apps have set the stage for wearable computing.
Apart from this when so much is buzzing about wearable computing technology, how world?s biggest smart phone and PC maker APPLE can lag behind which has recently announced launch of smart watches. Very soon may be your RADO watches would disappear and in place Apple iwatches would occupy that space. Traditional companies are also entering into this segment to explore this untapped market and soon there will be huge demand for engineers who can handle manufacturing of such sophisticated devices and come up with new ideas so if you have a keen interest in doing engineering keep your mind open to ideas may be you will be next STEVE JOBS.
Contextually aware computers will be hot topic at least for next decade. Whatever is the scenario, but it is for sure it will revolutionize your world.
