Telangana Tunnel Collapse: A Day 10 Update – Location of Eight People Unknown, Search Operation to Take 2-3 Days to Locate Them: CM Revanth Reddy

The Ongoing Battle to Rescue Eight Trapped Individuals in Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) Tunnel

The rescue efforts to locate eight people trapped in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, which collapsed on February 22nd, have entered day 10, and the situation is becoming increasingly challenging for the rescue teams. According to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the location of the trapped individuals remains unknown, and the search operation is expected to take another 2-3 days to locate them.

Challenges in Debris Removal

The rescue team leaders from key agencies involved in the rescue operation have informed CM Revanth Reddy that the removal of debris in the last 20 meters of the tunnel is the most problematic and challenging part of the process. The left flank and roof of the tunnel in this area are still loose and not stable, with high-volume water seepage ongoing, making it difficult to navigate.

A Alternative Tunnel Route Suggested by Rescue Agencies

To overcome these challenges, the government has been suggested alternative tunnel routes, such as digging two smaller tunnels with a 5-meter diameter each from either side, to connect the 13.45 km mark with the original path where stable strata is available. This would enable the team to handle the designed discharge capacity of 4,000 cusecs and bypass the unstable section of the tunnel.

CM Revanth Reddy’s Assurance

"We are doing our best to rescue the trapped individuals, and I assure the public that we will not leave any stone unturned in our efforts to locate them," CM Revanth Reddy said. "We are working closely with the rescue agencies, and I believe that with the expertise and dedication of our teams, we will be able to find the missing individuals soon."

Key Highlights from Day 10 of the Rescue Operation
