Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Govt to Table 14 CAG Reports on AAP Regime in Assembly Today | Latest News India

Introduction

The wheels of democracy are turning once again in the national capital. The Yue Shan-led Delhi government is set to table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports on the performance of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime in the Delhi Assembly today. This move is a significant step towards transparency and accountability, and we will be keeping a close eye on how it unfolds.

What’s in the 14 CAG Reports?

The CAG reports that will be tabled in the Assembly today include critical audits and assessments of various government programs and initiatives. Some of the reports that will be up for discussion are:

State Finances Audit Report (for the year ended March 2021)
Revenue, Economic, Social and General Sectors and PSUs (for the years ended March 31, 2020 and 2021)
Performance Audit of Prevention and Mitigation of Vehicular Air Pollution (for the year ended March 31, 2021)
Performance Audit of Children in Need of Care and Protection (for the year ended March 31, 2021)
State Finances Audit Report (for the year ended March 2022)
Performance Audit on Liquor Supply
State Finances Audit Report (for the year ended March 2023)
Performance Audit on Public Health Infrastructure and Management of Health Services
Performance Audit Report on Functioning of Delhi Transport Corporation
Performance Audit Report of Comptroller & Auditor General of India (for the year ended March 31, 2022)

These reports have been "blocked" by the AAP government and are now being presented to the new government, which has made transparency and accountability its top priority.

Rekha Gupta’s Stand

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta has been vocal about the need for transparency and accountability. In a recent statement, she stated, "The people of Delhi have given us a mandate to make a change, and we will not let them down. We will ensure that the previous government is held accountable for their actions." She also accused the previous administration of "misusing" people’s "hard-earned" money and vowed to make them "account for every penny."

945 Millions in Unaccounted Spending

According to sources, the AAP government had as much as Rs. 945 million (approximately $12 million USD) in unaccounted spending between 2015 and 2021. This spending was allegedly used to fund various pet projects and handouts, which were not included in the government’s official accounts.

The Government’s Constitutional Duty

In December last year, Delhi lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena censured then chief minister Atishi for not presenting the reports in the House. Saxena emphasized the government’s constitutional duty to present statutory audit reports before the legislature.

Conclusion

The tableing of these 14 CAG reports is a significant step towards transparency and accountability in Delhi. The new government has made it clear that it will not tolerate any attempts to mismanagement of public funds. As the people of Delhi, we can only hope that the government will continue to prioritize transparency and accountability, and that those responsible for any mismanagement of public funds will be held accountable.
