Prof. Adam Smith, the Father of Economics, stood by a pin factory and observed that there are many workers doing a different kind of jobs that are required to produce pins. Perhaps he coined the terms “division of labour” and “specialization” there.
When I started my new job delivering food to people for Doordash, I became aware of the concept of dignity of labour (all jobs are respected equally).
I saw a girl on the scooter riding it confidently to do her job. The confidence I saw in her inspired me to complete the job with confidence.
The Doordashers may come from a wealthy family, some were from universities and academia, but they surprised me because they were doing a job instead of wasting their time chatting with friends, drinking and stuff like that.
I became more aware of the people who worked as Doordashers in the evenings and late at night, I saw them as responsible people that the company and family could trust.
It’s rightly written on Australia Trucks, without trucks Australia would stop; without farmers, there will be no food, without soldiers, the enemy will come in. Without police, robbers will rob.
In 2008, I went to India and travelled by autorickshaw. When the autorickshaw stopped at the intersection, a girl about seven or eight years old came over and asked me to buy a bouquet of roses. I bought it, I could not stop my tears. Life is like that, it is all about food.
During COVID-19, I learned how to use a mobile phone, and now, after taking a permanent break from University, I learned to route food. It’s amazing what life teaches us.
