Actor Irrfan Khan passed away earlier today after being admitted to Mumbai?s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Tuesday, where he was being treated for a colon infection.

The acclaimed actor had earlier announced that he?d been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in 2018 and was battling it privately for the last few years.

Opening up on his tough fight, Mr. Khan had written a poignant note about the unexpected events in his life and the transient nature of it all, alluding to his diagnosis as a ‘jolt.’

The actor had previously sought treatment in London and there were sporadic updates about his better health to his well-wishers, shared by himself.

He resumed work in the movies in 2019, with the well-received Angrezi Medium, a sequel to his 2017 hit, Hindi Medium.

A National Award winner, Mr. Khan was one of the few Indian actors to successfully transition into Hollywood, working with stalwarts such as Mira Nair, Ron Howard, Ang Lee and Tom Hanks. It was his command of the cinematic language along with a magnetic screen presence that allowed him to straddle cinema from around the world, with consummate ease.

After a long, tough fight, his journey comes to an end, with a cinematic legacy that will forever bear its stamp on film.
