Chennai Super Kings Appoint Sridharan Sriram as Assistant Bowling Coach for IPL 2025
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has made a significant addition to their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Sridharan Sriram, a former Indian cricketer, has been appointed as the assistant bowling coach of the team, replacing Dwayne Bravo, who had joined the Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor last year.
Sriram, a seasoned coach, has an impressive résumé, with extensive experience in the coaching circuit. He has previously worked with teams like the Australian national team as their assistant coach from 2016 to 2022, Bangladesh’s T20 consultant for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, and even served as the assistant coach of the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. His most recent stint was with Delhi Capitals, where he worked as an assistant coach.
The 48-year-old’s appointment is seen as a shrewd move by the CSK management, given the team’s nascence in the bowling department. The franchise has an abundance of spin options, led by experienced operators like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal, and Noor Ahmad, as well as spin-bowling all-rounders Rachin Ravindra and Deepak Hooda.
The CSK squad finished fifth in the previous edition of the IPL, failing to qualify for the playoffs under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, with Sriram on board, the team is expected to revamp its bowling attack and make a strong resurgence in the upcoming season.
Sriram will work alongside head coach Stephen Fleming, batting coach Mike Hussey, and bowling consultant Eric Simons, providing a solid coaching framework for the CSK players.
The IPL 2025 season is set to kick off on March 22, with KKR taking on RCB at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, followed by CSK’s opening game against Mumbai Indians on March 23. Fans can tune in for what promises to be an exciting season of cricket.
