Sridharan Sriram Appointed as Assistant Bowling Coach of Chennai Super Kings Ahead of IPL 2025

Mumbai, February 24: In a significant development in the lead-up to the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), former India cricketer Sridharan Sriram has been appointed as the assistant bowling coach of the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings. The announcement was made on Monday through the franchise’s social media accounts.

Sriram, 49, a left-handed batter and left-arm spinner, has an impressive background in the game, having represented India in eight ODI matches between 2000 and 2004. Post his playing career, he worked as a spin-bowling coach with the Australian men’s cricket team, playing a key role in their 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup triumph in the UAE. He also served as the technical consultant for the Bangladesh men’s cricket team in the 2022 Asia Cup and 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup.

Sriram’s extensive experience in coaching and playing will be a significant asset to the CSK team, particularly in working with their highly experienced spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shreyas Gopal, as well as Afghanistan’s wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad and New Zealand’s left-arm spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra.

According to Sriram, "Nobody cares how old you are; the level needs to be the same in IPL." This statement resonates with the franchise’s captain, MS Dhoni, who is confident of pushing his body through six to eight months of training to stay fit for the upcoming season.

The appointment of Sriram comes at an exciting time for CSK, as they prepare to face off against fellow five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

It’s worth noting that Sriram has a strong background in cricket, having accumulated 9539 runs in 133 first-class matches, including 85 wickets, and has also served as a broadcaster with the Star Sports Tamil commentary team for the Champions Trophy.

While the news of Sriram’s appointment is significant, it’s also worth mentioning the story of MS Dhoni, who has been spotted practicing power-hitting at the Chepauk stadium ahead of the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to an exciting season of IPL cricket, with the team’s experienced coach, Stephen Fleming, and new assistant bowling coach, Sriram Sriram, at the helm.
