Chennai Super Kings Appoint Australia’s T20 World Cup-Winning Coach to Their Support Staff to Assist Ashwin and Others in IPL 2025
In a significant move, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced the appointment of Srikanth Sridharan, a former India all-rounder and Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning coach, as their assistant bowling coach ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) edition. The new addition to the support staff was confirmed through CSK’s official social media handles, marking a boost to the team’s bowling department.
Sridharan, who was part of Australia’s successful T20 World Cup campaign in 2021, has an impressive coaching résumé, having worked as an assistant coach for the Australian national team from 2016 to 2022. His experience will undoubtedly be valuable in helping CSK’s spinners, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal, and Noor Ahmad, fine-tune their skills ahead of the upcoming IPL season.
Sridharan’s appointment is seen as a major coup for CSK, given his success in Australian cricket. He left his role with the Australian team to join the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the 2022 IPL season and later became the consultant for the Bangladesh team ahead of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.
Before his stint with the Australian team, Sridharan worked as an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) in the IPL. His extensive experience in various coaching roles will undoubtedly help him blend in with the CSK coaching staff, which includes head coach Stephen Fleming, batting coach Mike Hussey, and bowling consultant Eric Simons.
CSK will play their first match of the 2025 IPL season on March 23 against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will look to lead the team to a strong start in the tournament. With Sridharan on board, CSK fans will be hoping for a resurgent bowling performance from the team, which has struggled in recent years.
The addition of Sridharan to the CSK coaching staff is a significant boost to the team’s chances in the upcoming season. With his wealth of experience in coaching, he is expected to play a key role in helping the team achieve success in the 2025 IPL edition.
