Spread the love

If you’ve always had a genuine love for gaming and you want to make it your career, then you’re in luck since there are more openings than ever in the gaming sector right now. There are so many ways that you could make a full-time living either playing games, developing them, or talking about them. You could also decide to get into the hardware department. It?s important to know which areas have the most demand right now, what it takes to get there, and whether you have what it takes to fill these positions. Here are some career options every gamer could consider.

Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make money through gaming. You could build a blog and integrate some affiliate links within your content. You could set up a newsletter and let people know of the latest deals or releases and add affiliate links in there. Alternatively, you could set up a review site, add affiliate links to the products or sites you review, and make a profit every time someone makes a purchase. This could be a particularly great option if you like playing casino games. Online gaming sites like Spin Palace and plenty others have great affiliate programs and online casino review sites can be extremely profitable. You could also become an Amazon or GameStop affiliate and review hardware or accessories. The best part here is that gaming equipment is often expensive, so even with the small commissions that affiliate programs like Amazon pay out, you should still be able to make some good money.

Become a Videogame Designer

If you truly love gaming and you think you have what it takes to program them, then you could always consider becoming a videogame designer. However, it?s not easy to become one and you’ll need to have special talent if you want to be hired by a major studio. You will first need to get a bachelor?s degree either in video game design, software engineering, or computer science. Yes, we do know that there are video game programming boot camps and that some designers for top companies were able to get hired with nothing but a boot camp certification, but this isn’t something we would suggest you pursue.

A boot camp is good for people who want to get a foundation and know whether they like the job, but you can’t realistically expect a major studio to pick you up with nothing but a boot camp formation unless you have massive talent. Once you get your degree, you can consider pursuing a master’s but it’s not necessary. What will be the most important step is working on building a portfolio as this is what will show companies your skills and help them see if you would be a good fit for their studio. You might also have to do some low-level work like game testing so you can get your foot in the industry as well.

eSports Player

If you?re particularly talented at a specific game or many games, then you could also consider a career as an eSports player. Know, however, that you?ll need to spend a lot of time and money on practice. It?s also one of the riskiest career paths for gamers and you might have to work on building your presence on platforms like Twitch and YouTube to fill gaps.

So, if you are looking for a good career option and you like gaming, these are all choices you could consider. Take the time to do your research on each of them and see if this is something you could see yourself doing for the rest of your life.
